NO Weekend Wave issue #1303

Dear Readers,

I'm sorry. There will be no Weekend Wave. Our main PC crashed yesterday and I'm totally busy with hadware checks and possible alternatives.

I hope to be back soon.

No other way to say it - that really sucks. Hope you can restore and recover.

I hope you won't suffer any dataloss, and won't have to pay a furtune to the repair. Unfortunatally these computers are sensitive devices...

Hi Alex and Zoltán,

The mmainboard does not work any longer and it seems the CPU is also damaged.
It is a socket 939 mainboard with an AMD Athlon 64 4000 single core processor.
As you can see it is out of fashion.
So I'm forced to by new components like mainboard, processor, ram, cpu cooler and a hard disc.
I will do that because case, power supply and DVD drive are still fine and we do not have the money to buy a new PC now.

Fortunately I can do the hardware and software installation on my own. But that will take some time.
I hope I will find some time for reading.

So I will be back when the work is done.

Hi Edi,
Lots of sympathy.
My computer crashed just before new year. I lost two terrabytes of data. Of course most of it was backed up, but it is still annoying not having files, photos, links and bookmarks at your fingertips.
Now I have to get used to Windows 8 as well, and pay off the new computer. :(

Work with an abbacus if need be!

Edi's Lighthouse can't go dark... ships full of readers will be wrecked on the rocks of insufficiently good books.

Hi Rosalie,
thank you for your kind words.
You know what my wife and I are going through. I will be back to blogging soon.
